Project: development and characterization of polymer-based chemical admixtures for use in concrete materials

Bio: Baishakhi was born in Bangladesh and she spent most of her childhood years in Yangon, Myanmar. After completing high school in Yangon, she started pursuing her B.Sc. in Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) with a Major in Environmental Engineering. After graduation she joined her university as a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering in 2014. She was part of several research projects, from low-cost earthquake resistant building materials, to finding out the optimum mix for concrete work in Bangladesh as a Lecturer at BUET. In addition, she taught undergraduate courses in Civil and Structural Engineering. She also got her M.Sc. degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the same university in 2017. She worked on water filtration using sand filters and corrosion potential of reinforced-concrete in harsh environments for her B.Sc. and M.Sc. thesis, respectively. She is very much motivated by research that works towards sustainability and is currently working on effectiveness of incorporating organic waste products into concrete as internal curing agents. After graduation, Baishakhi hopes to pursue a post-doctoral appointment and then continue her career in academics.  Outside of research, Baishakhi is involved in outreach activities in WIEP at Purdue and loves dancing, glass painting and traveling.
