Project: effect of multivalent ions on swelling and mechanical properties of SAP hydrogels
Bio: Nick is from Carmel, Indiana, where he went to Guerin Catholic High School and graduated in 2014 with Honors. Nick began pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in the fall of 2014. He is involved in many campus organizations including Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, Design for America, Purdue University Materials Advantage, and is a teaching assistant for the freshman honors engineering class. Outside of school, Nick enjoys cooking, playing soccer and basketball, and playing games with friends. In his research, Nick is studying the effects multivalent aluminum ions on super absorbent polymers. Working with the SMM group is Nick’s first research experience in college, but he hopes to continue research until graduation. After graduation, Nick hopes to attend graduate school for Materials Science and eventually find a full time research position in industry or academia.
