Project: Characterization of superabsorbent polymer particles for use in high-performance concrete
Bio: Natalie is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is a sophomore studying Materials Engineering. Her present goal is to discover the field of engineering through hands on experience, but ultimately wants a career reflecting her interest in environmental sustainability. Her past projects have involved the mechanics of thermoreversible hydrogels under compression as well as the swelling properties of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs). Her current project focuses on designing an experiment that allows the swelling force of SAPs to be measured using a rheometer. She is also involved in Purdue's chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) as well as the women's rugby team.
